May 12, 2007 Steve's Race Report

It was another great day for racing. the car was pretty good in practice. I was in the first heat race and I was supposed to start 3rd but the 04 car crashed in practice and did not make the heat race so they moved me up to the pole. The car was a little bit loose for me in the heat race but I was able to keep the lead for the entire 8 laps.

For the feature I made a small adjustment for the loose condition. I started 5th and to be honest I never thought I would win this race cause I had 2 slower cars in front of me and Luke, Donnie, Ron Poley, and Mike were the first 4 cars on the outside row. When the green fell, I was surprised at my progess I was hanging in there (not saying I didn't have to do a little beating and banging). I was on the low line when I caught a glimpse of Don getting loose. I think Don got some help and he ended up spinning and stopped sitting sideways on the front strech. The 89 with no where to go hit Don hard and I mean hard. The car sustained a serious amount of damage. The good thing is Don was not hurt but a little down on his luck. Don't worry, Don it will get repaired for next week. The car will be fixed for this week with a brand new chasisis.

Soon after we went back green I was able to grab the lead and never looked back. I had a more then comfortable lead for the entire race which made it easier to get by the lap cars. The hardest thing was dealing with a helmet shield that was fogging up for the last 5 laps!! I have to give a shout out to my nephew Alex ( mike's son) who was in the hospital all week and told Mike on the phone before the race that his Uncle Steve was gonna win and lead every lap.!!! Well he was pretty close!

Alex that one was for you little buddy! Alex is home and well at this time. It was a long week for Mike who had a solid 7th place run. I know what it's like to have to race with stuff on your mind. Mike and Don's wins are coming soon. I can feel it. This was just the start. Everyone was there to greet me in Victory Lane. This was the 1st race Kayla was at that I won. Mistie, Sandi and Steve Jr were also there with much needed support. And I cant say enough about the work my Dad puts into the cars every single week he never misses a beat. He really is the reason we have the winning team we have!

Thanks again dad your work does not go un-noticed! Thanks to Pat and Erik for all the hard work they put in. Great job, guys!. Joe has missed a few races with work. They have been playing games with him and he is soon to retire. He has always called to say congrats! He will be back soon, too. Thanks for the support Joe.

Thanks for reading the report and come back week to week for my race reports!

C-YA!
